After years of planning, the Garrapata Creek Watershed upslope erosion project in mid August. The council received funding from the State Department of Fish and Game and the California Coastal Conservancy to conduct a restoration project to reduce the impacts that upslope roads have on the creek below.
Because of poorly designed roads, more fine sediment from winter storms is being delivered to the creek than it can carry away. The result is our creek bottom is mostly sand in many spots and the pools that steelhead need as habitat are largely filled with fine sediment. Spawning sites called Redds are also being covered with fine sediment which smothers the eggs. Check the Council's Restoration Plan for details.

![]() A new culvert that was installed on 28 August at Glen Deven on the switchback road that leads down to the creek. The road has been plagued in the past by landslides and is complicated by several springs which run year round. This is a high priority site. |
