Location description: The project location in the Garrapata Creek watershed is bounded by the watershed drainage divide. To the south Palo Colorado Creek and to the north Doud Creek watershed divide (Map 1). The project is located in Monterey County on United States Geological Survey (USGS) 7.5' quadrangle maps, Sobranes Point and Mt. Carmel, California. . Access is from Highway 1, ten miles south from the town of Carmel, CA. The project area consists of the mainstem of the Garrapata Creek and two tributary drainages, Wildcat Creek and Joshua Creek. The project area is approximately 10.6 square miles (6,780 acres). Nearly 60% of the project area is forested. Elevations in the area range from 0' at the mouth of Garrapata Creek at the Pacific Ocean to over 3900' on the eastern watershed line dividing the project area from Carmel River watershed. There are approximately 21 miles of blue line creek in the project area. The attached location map (Maps 1) depict the exact location of the project area. 4. Directions: To access northern work areas, drive south of Monterey, California on Highway 1, ten miles south of Carmel, California to the Garrapata Creek watershed. On Highway 1, turn left on Trout Farm Road 100' before Garrapata Creek Bridge. To access southern work areas, drive south of Monterey, California on Highway 1, ten miles south of Carmel, California to the Garrapata Creek watershed. On Highway 1, drive past the Garrapata Creek Bridge 1.25 miles and turn left on Palo Colorado Road. On Palo Colorado Road drive 1.75 miles and turn left on Garrapatos Road. At the top of the ridge is the Garrapata Creek watershed boundrey, and the Glen Devon Ranch.
